Steven Grant, M.D. will be joining the Robert A. Winn Excellence in Clinical Trials Award Program as Scientific Advisor on Clinical Trials and Translational Research for the Winn Career Development Award (Winn CDA) program, effective July 1, 2025.
Dr. Grant brings with him a remarkable legacy in hematologic malignancies, experimental therapeutics, and translational oncology. With more than four decades of experience, he has shaped the field through groundbreaking work in clinical trial design, targeted therapy development, and translational research strategy.
Currently a Professor of Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Dr. Grant also holds appointments in Pharmacology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. At the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, he has served in key leadership roles, including Associate Director for Translational Research and Co-Leader of the Developmental Therapeutics Program.

Dr. Grant is not new to the Winn Awards program; he has served as a mentor and advisor through the Winn CDA program.
As Scientific Advisor on Clinical Trials and Translational Research, Dr. Grant will collaborate with the Winn CDA team to further strengthen the scientific and clinical foundation of the program’s curriculum—especially in areas like trial design, implementation, and translational strategy. His expertise will be essential in equipping early-career physician-scientists to lead community-oriented, high-impact clinical research.
